Morzine Village at 1000m Altitude
When trying to determine the amount of snow you might expect to find when you come to Morzine, one of the questions people sometimes ask is …. how high is Morzine?
Morzine village itself is at an altitude of 1,000m and as with most resorts, this normally reflects the altitude of the village centre rather than the altitude of the pistes which run up to 2,300m high.
How high is Morzine compared to other ski resorts?
There are a number of reasons we have such a great skiing and snowboarding here in Morzine, one of which is very easy to see if you’ve ever had the luck to visit during the summer months. The majority of all the pistes are carved out onto grassy terrain (rather than rock/stone) meaning that Morzine can have fantastic pistes with a much lower snow depth than some other higher ski resorts. Even after the very first snowfall of the winter season, you’ll always find a crew of locals heading up to ski the fresh pistes.
Morzine is also located in the Northern Alps and with Avoriaz and the surrounding resorts of the Portes du Soleil, a huge amount of northerly facing slopes which also retain snow much longer thanks to the cool shade.
